What is AFMO? The Association de Football Mineur de l’Outaouais. It is the parent organization of youth football in the region. What is the LFMO? The Ligue de Football Mineur de l’Outaouais. It is the organization the runs the spring recreational football league in the region. When does the season run? The LFMO runs from early April until the end of the school year. What are the ages/divisions for the football players? Eligibility is based on the year of birth. For the 2012 season, Tykes will be 2002-2004, Mosquito 2000-2001. What equipment is needed? The LFMO provides most equipment needed to participate, including helmet, shoulder pads, girdle, 7 piece pad set, practice pants, belt and jersey. Cleats and mouthguard need to be purchased by each participant. Are there tryouts to make a team? No, there are no tryouts to make a team. There are however limits to the number of players allowed on the roster. Positions will be assigned at the discretion of the coaches. Players will be assigned to various positions during the season in order to best learn the game of football. Does everyone play? Yes, everyone plays. Each child will receive ample playing time. How many players are allowed on a team? Our goal is to have between 18-25 kids per team. This may vary depending on number of children at each level. Where, When and How often is practice? Practices will be held at Complexe Mont Bleu Practices begin TBA(beginning of April) and run 2 times a week until the first game. Once the games start, there will be one practice on Tuesday and one game Saturday morning. When will I know what team my Child will be on? Players are distributed by years of experience, size and age in order to create the most balanced teams possible. Special requests for placements on specific teams (playing with friends, siblings, etc) are not considered except for exceptional circumstances. All practices and games occur in the same place at the same time making carpooling feasible even if players are on different teams. When will I get my child’s schedule? The full schedule for the LFMO season is available on the Vikings website. It will be posted early in 2012. How long are the games? Games are 50 minutes in length. Do I need to remain at the practice field with my child? YES. Think Safety! - Football is a contact sport. Injuries are not common, but they do occur and parents need to be present at all times. If you need to leave the practice for any reason, it is mandatory to have an emergency contact present during practice hours in the event of illness or injury. Please ensure that another parent in responsible for your child before leaving the premises. The coaches are not responsible for injured players. When is my child’s equipment need to be returned? To avoid forfeiting your equipment deposit, all the equipment must be returned to the LFMO on the last day of the season. Immediately following the final games. Players signed up to try-out for Vikings competitive teams will keep the equipment, but will need to provide the necessary paperwork and provide a new equipment deposit cheque. How will we know when football practices or games are cancelled due to weather conditions? The LFMOC will only cancel league wide functions when the weather poses a danger to the children, lightning or extreme heat. We will do out utmost to post any cancellations or changes on the website 1 hour prior to practice/game. How do you select coaches? Coaches are selected each year after an interview process and approval by the Technical Director . Do you perform background checks on the coaches? Yes, the SQ perform our background checks. Do your coaches have any training? All of our coaches are volunteers, but we do ask them to have training classes. All coaches in the LFMO attend mandatory league orientation meetings to ensure they adhere to the mandate of the league. I am interested in coaching. How can I become involved? Any individuals who would like to volunteer for coaching need to contact LFMO President Gawain Harding by clicking on the “get more info now” button on the website. What if my child is injured during a game or practice? We ask that you stay onsite. Coaches have minimum first aid training. Emergency crews will be called if parents are not present. How can I help? The LFMO is run entirely by volunteers and your help is greatly appreciated. If you are interested in helping out, please email registration@vikingsgatineau.ca and your request will be forwarded to the appropriate person. When will pictures be taken? Usually in the first few weeks of the season. Parents will have the opportunity to purchase packages. Forms will be posted on the website. Will there be any fundraising? No, you will not be asked to do any fundraising. Who can I contact if I have questions? Announcements will be sent via email and posted on the website. NO, communication will be done by telephone. Fees: For the 2012 season, the registration fee is $185. This fee includes all the games and practices, a 'spirit pack' and the loan of the football equipment. There is an additional $150 deposit for the loan of the helmet, shoulder pads, pants, girdle, 7 piece pad set, belt and jersey. If ALL the equipment is returned immediately following the final game, the cheque is returned to you along with your receipt for income tax purposes. If the equipment is not returned, the deposit cheque is deposited the same day. Please note parents are required to provide a mouthguard. Players cannot step onto the field without one. Are parents allowed on the field: For insurance reasons, parents are NOT allowed on the field unless they are official team/Club volunteers registered with Football Quebec.
